New non-dwelling structures such as boarding houses, hotels, and motels must install a minimum of one CO detection device per building at the fuel-burning appliance. (Effective date: December 23, 2008)
Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) § 125.1504f (Act 377)
The Michigan Code Commission is given authority to adopt rules for the mandatory installation of CO devices in new and existing single- and multi-family dwellings. Should the Commission adopt such requirements, the CO device(s) must be located within the vicinity of bedrooms, in areas within the dwelling adjacent to an attached garage, and in areas adjacent to any fuel-burning appliances.
