Detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhomes of not more than three stories within which fuel-fired appliances are installed or which have attached garages are required to install CO alarms. (Effective date: January 1, 2010)

Requires amendments to the Iowa Code Section 100.18 for the installation of carbon monoxide alarms in existing single-family rental units and multiple-unit residential buildings that have a fuel-fired heater or appliance, a fireplace, or an attached garage.
